CCL’s Alex Caithness presented a Python “taster” day for the F3 conference at Dunchurch
On Wednesday (27/09/2017) CCL’s Principal Analyst Alex Caithness presented a Python “taster” day for the F3 conference at Dunchurch in Warwickshire.
Python is a programming language that we use extensively in our labs here at CCL to supplement the capabilities offered by off-the-shelf tools and offer new and innovative solutions to the emerging challenges in digital forensics. This presentation was designed to provide a “taster” for Python novices to help introduce them to the possibilities that Python can provide, as well as provide some new “recipes” to inspire fresh ideas in those more experienced with Python.
During the talk, which was delivered to digital forensics practitioners from around the country, Alex demonstrated the power and speed offered by Python in solving problems that might be faced during an investigation. Over the course of the 4 sessions Alex introduced the delegates to the fundamentals of the Python programming language, how to set up a coding environment, file handling and databases, extracting data from websites and cryptography.
