Mobile Device Lab Quality Technician

Main Purpose/Job Summary:

The role will involve supporting technical validation officers with integral quality tasks within the Mobile Device Laboratory, with the aim of maintaining and developing the Lab’s accreditations to ISO17025:2017 and the Forensic Science Regulator’s Codes of Practice & Conduct.

Main Duties & Responsibilities (other duties may be assigned):

Overall responsibilities include:

  • Lab equipment calibration
  • Maintaining software and monitoring industry for updates
  • Creating and monitoring casework archives
  • Monitoring and flagging the expiry of training and competency records
  • Population of reference devices
  • Following existing SOPs and instructions to perform examinations of mobile devices for validation and verification purposes
  • Gap analysis towards future quality certifications
  • Risk assessments
  • Documenting findings in technical reports
  • Liaising with external suppliers regarding quality issues
  • Following existing SOPs and instructions to perform examinations of mobile devices for Proficiency / Inter-lab / Intra-lab testing
  • Continual review and feedback of documentation: SOPs, Reference Guides and Policies
  • Periodic technical audits
  • Administering updating systems; Asset management, knowledge sharing, training records

During UKAS audits:

  • Act as a point of contact for auditors
  • Assist with post-audit actions

  • Follow instructions and procedures with minimal supervision

  • Previous experience using a range of mobile devices on different platforms (iOS, Android, proprietary)
  • Prior experience operating within an ISO17025:2017 quality management system
  • Computer literacy and previous experience using Microsoft Office products SharePoint, Word and Excel

Other Role Requirements:

  • Minimum 5 years UK residency
  • Full driving licence
  • Satisfactorily pass pre-hire and annual security clearance procedures in accordance with the ACPO (Association of Chief Police Officers) National Vetting Scheme.
